Yes We Mustard!!
Hey Friends! Happy September. I hope you’re all safe from crazy natural disasters. I got to show my baby nieces rain for the very first time. They were totally mesmerized, although I’m sure their stance on unpredictable climate events will change as they grow sentient. Ah, to be young.
My big exciting update is that my Audible Original YES WE MUSTARD is out! This is my first longer narrative project, and the cast is fantastic. I’m really proud of it. I hope you’ll take a listen - you can get a month of Audible free. I also really hope you’ll rate it. It would mean so much to me if you did.
I had a pretty fun month with other writings, too. My new writing partner Alex Connolly and I had three pieces published this month - “The Time has Come for the Courts to Protect College Improvisers, Too” in the New Yorker, “Legal Compensation for Straight Women on Dating Apps” in McSweeney’s, and “This Is Dasani Water” in Defenestration. We also made this fun video about chill, chill guys.
I wrote about Spinster-hood and my favorite writer Barbara Pym for Electric Lit. I was a guest on my very funny friend Alexis Gay’s podcast “Non-Technical,” and I got a free facial! None of which really offsets all the devastation in the world, but so it goes. It was a busy month.
I thought maybe I’d give a book rec in my newsletter. My book this month is “How to Do Nothing” by Jenny Odell. My friend Karen recommended it to me, but she hasn’t yet responded to my messages with my thoughts, so I decided to dump it here (hi, Karen). The title of this book is misleading. It is not about doing nothing, and it hardly counts as a how-to book. It will make you want to start bird-watching, though. Also, she discusses the importance of ties with neighbors during times of natural disaster, so now’s as good a time as any to read it. It’s short, read it.
Love you, friends. Stay safe. Until next month!
