March Sadness
For the shortest month of the year, this February was really quite long. I’ll keep this newsletter brief and largely about me (as per usual) to avoid depressing anyone further. My big update is I finally performed my stand up hour, and it was a blast. You can see the full video here. I started comedy as a stand up, but in recent years, other things have taken up more of my time and attention. I never know how far I’ll go with stand up, so it’s honestly really nice to have an hour on tape, just so anyone who ever wants to watch it, can. Please enjoy this photo of me looking at the ground.
I spent the day leading up to my hour lying prone in anguish, but once it was done, I couldn’t wait to do it again. I’ve already got plans to take it to Philly & Atlanta, but if you know of a comedy club in your town or city that might want to host me, let me know! Here are some stand up dates from me:
March 16: NYC, 7pm, Caveat (I will, against all odds, be doing a set about Ted Cruz)
March 16: NYC, 9pm, The Gutter
March 18: NYC, Tinder Live, Littlefield’s, 8pm
March 20th: NYC, 8pm, Easy Lover
April 10th: NYC Slate, 8pm
April 22: Philly, Gutted! 7:30pm
May 1st: Atlanta, Hissy Fit Comedy, 6:30pm
I have no doubt I’m forgetting some, so I’ll update on social media.
I also did some super fun podcasts this month. I was on Betches Sup & The Guilty Feminist. I’m in full book promo mode (pls buy here), and being on fun podcasts is the best (/only good) part of it. I wrote a kinda emotional essay for Slate here. Not much else is new. I think it’s possible I’ve been shadow-banned from Twitter? Who knows.
My book recommendation is The Cryptopians by Laura Shin. One major confusion I’ve always had around crypto is how it can claim to be decentralized when there are clearly people making decisions about it. I owned Ethereum for like two years, and no one ever asked me to vote on shit (I thought I was in charge!!). This book really unpacks that dichotomy. Also, as a joke, I like to say how I don’t understand how crypto can be “hacked,” when it seems like anything that can be done with code is a fair way of obtaining it. This is an actual point of contention in the Ethereum community, which makes me feel validated in this “joke” (which I only played off as a joke because I was genuinely confused and didn’t wanna look dumb, not because I thought it was funny). I really love any sort of tech origin story, and this is one of the best ones. It’s funny, informative, and compelling. Check it out.
Love you guys xoxo
